Ram Reveals 1500 REV Electric Pickup in High-Profile Super Bowl Ad

The Ram truck brand yesterday launched its first-ever all-electric model, the Ram 1500 REV pickup, in a high-profile TV ad shown during the NFL’s Super Bowl broadcast.

Ram’s 60-second spot – titled “Premature Electrification,” a send-up of ads for erectile dysfunction medication – revealed no technical details about the REV, but made the expected promises boasting competitive driving range, payload, and towing capacity.

In a press release, Ram’s Stellantis parent company said the 1500 REV “will see Ram push past the competition in … range, payload, towing and charge time.”

What the ad and Stellantis’s official images do show is the Ram 1500 REV’s styling, which is far more conventional than that of the futuristic concept the company showed barely more than a month ago at the Consumer Electronics Show. The electric Ram 1500 that is set to go into production next year looks like a tweaked version of the current truck, and borrows few details from the edgy concept other than its grille-less front fascia and the shape of its LED lights.

Images of the production version’s cabin show a large central infotainment screen like that available in the current Ram 1500 pickup, along with a front passenger display like the one offered in the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Wagoneer SUVs. And where the gas-powered Ram’s engine would be is a front trunk.

Stellantis said it will begin production of the Ram 1500 REV in 2024 and promises the first examples will reach dealers before the end of that year.
