Fully Electric 2025 Ram 1500 REV Debuts with up to 800 KM of Range

When you can pull up behind a Ford F-150 Lightning at the local drive-thru or place an order for one of GM’s Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra, and Hummer EV trucks, it may feel like the debut of the production version of the all-electric 2025 Ram 1500 REV is a better-late-than-never proposition. But with Ram throwing down a bevy of “best-in-class” boasts at this year’s New York Auto Show, the electric truck party is just getting started.

Up to 800 km of Range

Although Ram says the new 1500 REV is based on a new architecture designed specifically for full-size electric vehicles, it shares a lot with the body-on-frame fossil fuel-powered fifth-generation 1500 trucks that have been around since the 2019 model year.

The REV's lone body style is based on the gas Ram’s five-passenger, four-door cabin. A pair of 250-kilowatt electric motors – front and back – deliver all-wheel drive with an automatic transmission as standard gear.

The electric Ram will offer two battery choices. A base pack is a 168-kilowatt-hour unit, with Ram targeting 585 kilometres of range between charges. The optional 229-kWh battery claims a best-in-class 835-km range. If we stick with the U.S. range figures, both REV versions beat the top F-150 Lightning (534 km) and the GMC Hummer (549 km).

Not satisfied with beating its main electric-truck rivals in driving range, Ram also teased a future third REV model. The forthcoming XR will offer a “class-shattering” amount of range, whatever that turns out to be.

Desirable 350-kW/800-volt DC fast charging is on board, too, adding up to 184 km of driving range in about 10 minutes at the appropriate charger.

If you need to haul and tow without burning gas, Ram says the 1500 REV can trailer up to 14,000 pounds (6,350 kilograms). The Lightning rings in at a max towing capacity of 10,000 lb (4,536 kg), and the Hummer at 7,500 lb (3,402 kg). Ram also claims the REV can handle a payload of up to 2,700 lb (1,225 kg) in its traditional rear cargo bed – another best-in-class claim.

The electric Ram’s front trunk space creates 424 litres of storage space where the traditional internal combustion engine would reside. If “frunk” space is important to you, know that the Lighting offers 400 L and the Hummer 320 L.

Concept vs. Production Truck

Fans of the Ram Revolution Concept electric truck that debuted earlier this year may be disappointed in how conventional the production version looks. The concept’s front cargo pass-through, barn-style side doors, and three-row seating are nowhere to be seen on the 2025 1500 REV. Instead, Ram designers have taken a similar, mild-design approach (as has Ford with its F-150-based Lightning).

Evident 1500 REV exterior touches that will ensure your neighbours know your electric truck doesn’t have a Hemi up front include “tuning fork” LED headlamps, a lit “RAM” badge, and a body-coloured front fascia. From behind, the electric Ram distinguishes itself with unique taillights.

The gas Ram trucks offer one of the nicest interiors in its class. The REV continues with its high standard with plenty of carbon fibre, metal, and leather trim bits. Other 1500 REV-specific features include a P/R/N/D “e-shifter,” normal or one pedal driving with maximum brake regeneration buttons, a starter button with an illuminated power symbol, and other details.

2025 Ram 1500 REV Availability

Although we don’t have any firm commitments from Ram on Canadian pricing and availability, interested buyers will likely have to pre-order their 2025 1500 REV at some point this year, with deliveries in the calendar year 2024.
