2024 Mazda CX-50 Gets Suspension and Steering Tweaks

Just a year into its life, Mazda is making some tweaks to the CX-50. The 2024 model gets revised suspension and steering tuning as part of the company's continuous improvement plan. It also gets a bit of a price hike.

The changes underneath include new dampers and a recalibrated power steering system. Mazda Canada couldn't tell us exactly why the changes were made, but the statement we received said that it was "just part of Mazda’s continuous 'kaizen' improvement process." Numerous reports from south of the border, however, say that the changes were to address customer complaints of a harsh ride (especially with larger wheel sizes) and heavy steering.

As the CX-50 is a different type of vehicle for Mazda aimed more at outdoorsy drivers and not as much at the brand's usual corner carvers, this change isn't much of a surprise. Stay tuned, as we'll likely review one sometime next year.

Pricing for the 2024 Mazda CX-50 starts from $39,300 in Canada for a GS-L model (before destination). It's a $1,050 increase over 2023, and the spec comes with dual-zone climate control, a 10.25-inch centre screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, four USB ports, a power tailgate, heated leatherette seats, and a heated steering wheel.

The GT trim adds 20-inch alloy wheels, Bose audio navigation, wireless phone charging, and more. It also upgrades the safety suite to include a head-up display, 360-view cameras, emergency lane keeping, and adaptive front lights. The GT trim can be optioned with a 2.5L turbo-four instead of the non-turbo 2.5L.

At the top of the line is the CX-50 Turbo Meridian Edition, which has all-terrain tires, a matte hood garnish, and other off-road spec items to make it more off-road capable. It also comes standard with the turbocharged engine.

The 2024 Mazda CX-50 should be at dealers soon.
