Mazda has just announced pricing for the upcoming 2024 CX-90 crossover as well as the available trim grades, some fuel economy figures, and a third engine option. The new three-row Mazda SUV will start from $45,900 (before destination, taxes, and fees) in Canada and will arrive at dealers in the spring.
While it's the 340-hp turbocharged six-cylinder engine and the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variants that have been getting a lot of attention, the CX-90 will offer a third engine option in Canada, which is the one that will be offered on most trim grades. It's the same turbocharged 3.3L inline-six as the top trim model except with a lower output.
The base engine offers 280 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque on regular unleaded gas and has a 48V mild hybrid system that allows for more start-stop system use and other fuel economy savings. It is rated to hit an estimated 9.9 L/100 km in the city and 8.4 on the highway. All-wheel drive is standard across the CX-90 lineup, and all share the same eight-speed automatic transmission.
This engine will be available on GS, GS-L, and GT trims. Standard features include heated front seats, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, one-touch power windows front and rear, and a power driver's seat. The L trim adds faux leather and a heated steering wheel, keyless entry, and swaps the third row's USB-A ports for the newer USB-C connection. It will also have optional captain's chairs in the second row and a package that includes a 5,000-lb towing capacity and a panoramic roof.
Mazda will offer the 323-hp PHEV model in GS, GS-L, and GT trims. The automaker didn't give a range estimate, but we expect the 17.8-kWh battery to at least hit the 50 km of electric driving range needed to secure the highest government EV incentives.
At the top of the range, the 2024 Mazda CX-90 offers the high-output 3.3L turbo six-cylinder engine. This one makes 340 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque on premium fuel (93 octane) and delivers an estimated fuel economy of 10.3 L/100 km city and 8.5 highway. The engine will be offered on the GT-P trim with the Nappa leather of the CX-90 Signature model, which includes ventilated front and middle seats, special quilting and dash trim options, and other luxury cabin appointments.
Every CX-90 gets Mazda's suite of safety technology. The driver assistance package includes front emergency braking, blind spot warnings, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping, and rear cross-traffic alerts. GT models add 360-view cameras, adaptive lights, rear emergency braking, and vehicle exit warnings. Signature models boost that with a system that works to help prevent secondary collisions as well as intersection collision avoidance support.
