History/Overview
The Audi e-tron is new for 2019 as the brand's first all-electric production car. It's an SUV that straddles the line between compact and mid-size models with dimensions that place it between the brand's Q5 and Q8. However, it becomes Audi's priciest crossover model in Canada with a starting tag of $90,000.
Available Trims
Audi offers the e-tron in Progressiv and Technik trims. Both use a 95-kWh battery pack and electric motors to provide quattro AWD traction and 402 hp and 490 lb-ft of torque. Audi promises a driving range of 329 km on a full charge
Standard Features
Progressiv trim's standard features include blind spot monitoring, forward collision detection with city-speed automatic braking, front and rear parking sensors, self-levelling headlights, tire pressure monitoring, cruise control, panoramic sunroof, 20-inch wheels, LED headlights and taillights, heated side mirrors, headlight washers, hands-free power tailgate, electric steering wheel adjustments, auto-dimming rearview mirror, passive keyless entry, heated front seats and steering wheel, leather seating with driver memory, four-zone climate control, digital gauge cluster, Audi MMI navigation and adaptive air suspension.
Technik trim adds a Bang & Olufsen 3D stereo, head-up display, wireless smartphone charging, power door closers, automatic high beams, top-view camera and 360-degree parking camera views, wet-arm wipers, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, leather dash cover and rear side window sun shades.
Key Options
An adaptive cruise assist package bundles adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition, emergency assist, intersection assistant with pre-sense 360 and a steering wheel with hands-on detection (which eliminates steering wheel heating).
A more basic driver assistance package keeps the base model's heated steering wheel.
A Progressiv convenience package adds lighted door sills, four-way front passenger lumbar and heated rear seats.
Technik can be optioned with a luxury package of Valcona leather seating, stitched leather dash cover and leather door arm rests and knee pads and contour front seats with massage function.
Fuel Economy
Audi's energy consumption estimates for the e-tron are 3.2/3.2 Le/100 km (city/highway), or 28.0/28.5 kWh/100 km.
Competition
At the moment, there are few all-electric luxury SUVs for the Audi e-tron to compete with. The Tesla Model X boasts a longer driving range and a higher price, while the Jaguar I-Pace also promises more driving range on a full charge but is a bit less expensive.
