BeeBopEh Its been mostly a-ok with reliability fear November 21, 2021 EX
Overall Score
Bought our first 2011 with nearly 200k use. Was an honest enjoyable miniwagon. Lots of inner gems like heated seats and a great well wearing interior. But my wife was solo driving and learned how its 5 star crash worthiness paid off. A heavy front end crash that made that car a write-off. Some sick people think its ok motoring to dead-stop on freeways - open traffic - to text. Located a used 2nd one (a clone) and went off again. But it croaked out on 2nd day!! Piston through the 2.4L block. Purchase warranty guys supplied a ( 3rd now) motor and it runs a-ok, so far. Deep research shows Kia/Hyundai power trains are weak during high km use, The car is great, but sure wish they'd upgrade the engine robustness better. Alleged cheapie piston skirts and internals scary. Owners should baby them with no 5K plus rev ups. Balance of cars fit and finish is a1. But the sudden croak engine failure issue are too frequent to build trust.

Issue: Kia Canada is conducting a Product Improvement Campaign that provides an update to the engine control module to detect potential problems before an engine fails. An engine failure could cause a sudden loss of power with an inability to restart. Note: This only affects vehicles equipped with a 2.4 L MPI engine. Safety Risk: A sudden loss of engine power could increase the risk of an accident. An engine failure could also create the risk of a fire. Corrective Actions: Kia will notify owners by mail. Owners will be instructed to take their vehicle to a dealer to update the software for the engine control module. Note: Kia recommends that you should always follow the correct vehicle maintenance schedule, which is printed in the Owner's Manual. If you experience unusual engine noise, reduced power, or a check engine/oil warning light, Kia advises you to immediately visit a Kia dealership to have your vehicle diagnosed.

On certain vehicles, the stop lamp switch may fail and cause intermittent operation of the brake lights. Failure of the brake lights to illuminate when the brake pedal is depressed could result in a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will replace the switch.

On certain vehicles, the clockspring assembly for the driver's airbag may become damaged and fail. As a result the airbag may not function as intended, and the instrument panel warning lamp would illuminate. Failure of the driver's frontal airbag to deploy during a crash (where deployment is warranted) could increase the risk of personal injury to the seat occupant. Correction: Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the airbag clockspring assembly.

On certain vehicles, the stop lamp switch may have been incorrectly installed during vehicle assembly. This could prevent proper brake lamp operation. Failure of the brake lamps to illuminate when the brakes are applied may result in the following road users being unaware of the driver's intentions, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury or death. A malfunction of the switch may also cause the brake lamps to remain illuminated when the brake pedal is released. Additionally, a faulty switch may affect the operation of the brake-transmission shift interlock on automatic transmission-equipped vehicles so that the transmission shifter would not be able to be shifted out of PARK position. It may also cause the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) light to illuminate, and it may not deactivate the cruise control when the brake pedal is depressed. Correction: Dealers will replace the stop lamp switch assembly.

On certain vehicles, an incorrect dimensional characteristic of the fuel pumps upper body can result in a misalignment of the armature shaft, which may cause some fuel pumps to experience poor brush-to-commutator contact conditions. In addition use of a 10 percent ethanol blend fuel can cause a film built-up that creates a high resistance between the brush and the commutator. The misaligned armature shaft prevents the brush and the commutator from making sufficient contact to overcome the high resistance film build-up between the brush and commutator. As a result the fuel pump may produce less pumping pressure than required to supply the fuel injection system resulting in poor starting or hesitation. Loss of propulstion, in conjunction with traffic and road conditions, and the driver's reactions, could increase the risk of a crash. Correction: Dealers will replace the fuel pump assembly.
