2008 Jeep Patriot

Great car but gas Is a problem
I've owned a 2008 jeep patriot since 2008. It's a good car and I like it a lot. Comfortable, reliable, looks nice. Fuel economy is the big problem. I can only get about 300 kilometers for a full tank. Almost all of my driving is highway driving. I wouldn't want to drive this car a lot in the city.

Not bad for domestic SUV
Not a lot of get up and go with this make, small gas tank, the gas mileage is decent enough, good size for a small SUV, problems with suspension

Great Vehicle
Great for what I need, plenty of space, comfortable seating on longer journeys, great gas mileage and so far, very reliable, love the fold forward front seat for loading long items and the semi-reclining rear seats. all in all, a good value comfortable and cheap to run and insure vehicle for our family.

will truly go anywhere
I bought this shortly after retiring my trusty 2000 grand Cherokee , has been an absolute gem no problem what's ever. Acceleration is a little sluggish though cause of cvt. Always change your cvt transmission fluid and your good to go.

2008 Jeep Patriot

Great Vehicle!
I love my Jeep Patriot. It is great on gas and drives really good. As with any sport utility Jeep, my only complaint is the trunk space. With 2 kids and a big dog, this car is just too small for our Vancouver road trips. If I could afford to maintain 2 vehicles I would not be selling this one. I purchased it new right off the lot and I have never regret it. Also, if you like tailgating, the hatch (back door) when open, has drop down speakers and a great sound system! Also comes with a built in flashlight.

Great on gas
This is the perfect vehicle to have for travelling back and forth to the city from a rural home. It is great on gas and has 4x4 as well. Seat warmers is an added bonus. The only negative thing for me to say is that you can only lock/unlock the doors from the drivers side. To me that is ridiculous. If I had been there when my husband bought it I wouldn;t have picked this specific model

Lemon
My Patty was the third car I owned, and absolutely the WORST thing I have ever in my life driven. It has given me nothing but problems, all my front end bearings have been broken, my entire suspension blew at the same time, the electronic throttle body fried itself so my auto drove like a bad standard. I have easily dumped $3000+ into repairs, and it breaks down in the absolute worse spots, like grocery shopping. Please, dear God, Do NOT buy this truck! Talk to a mechanic, they are notoriously terrible, youtube 'Patriot Transmission Failures'. And I get it, every car has its downsides, but I want to light mine on fire and laugh as it burns.
Outside of that, the seats are comfortable if you don't mind the jerking, the completely dropped suspension (and not on purpose) and the weird sounds.
The headlights are beyond useless if you actually drive at night on road without street lights.
Fuel mileage is iffy, its not great, its not terrible. On par with with my old Mazda3.
Don't expect to be flooring it past anyone however, because its gutless, unless you redline it.
It's exterior is a box on wheels, and aerodynamics don't exist but I liked the boxy look when I bought it.
Currently, my 2008 Patriot with a measily 187km is parked without plates. I will not put my child into that vehicle ever again.

Loving my Jeep!
I've had this Jeep for about a month now, and I can't believe how much I love it! It runs great, the fuel economy is incredible, and having one makes me notice how many other people out there are Jeep lovers! If you've never taken one out, you don't know what your missing!

This car has provided my family with good gas mileage, reliability, and storage space. The hatch space is great for travelling, and shopping trips. There is plenty of leg room in the back seats.

Was a Jeep skeptic, now I love them!
I've had this vehicle, which we bought used from a reputable dealership, since late 2010. It is very good on gas, and has had little wrong with it besides usual wear and tear. I plan on making my next vehicle a Jeep now.

My Patriot has served me well
I purchased my 2008 Jeep Patriot new. I am the most satisfied with the fuel economy and the AWD. It is not a very smooth ride and it is not full of many frills or luxuries. The size of the hatch is not quite big enough for our family's needs at times. You get luggage or hockey equipment in there and it's crammed. I appreciate the gas mileage that I do earn from my Patriot, as a busy family we are always on the go. This makes a good family vehicle, but not in comparison to larger SUV's or vans. In my opinion, there is "zero" tow capacity to this vehicle and so not practical for anyone who needs to tow. I would recommend the Patriot, however, I will be upgrading to something a bit more comfortable and with more "extras" next time around.

2008 Jeep Patriot

Trim: 4x2 North
by tooscoops on 10-27-2012
Great Cargo mover
In the competitive segment of small SUV's there are a lot of different reasons to choose one over the next.

Compact SUV's need to be versatile, efficient, cost effective and comfortable.

The Patriot is all of those, though some more than others.

Comfort wise, the car has decently supportive seats and the ride is a nice balance of smoothness. Armrests, dash and trim panels however, are as hard as plastic can be. add that to the singular nature of Jeep and you have an issue. for 2009 and I think 2011 there were interior improvements to add more soft touch material.

Cost wise, this model is in the lower section on the used market. regular maintenance is inexpensive and my personal experience has been great with repairs (or lack thereof)

Efficiency is moderate. The North could have either a 2.0L or a 2.4L 4 Cylinder engine as well as two or four wheel drive. Mine is a 2.0L 4x2 and has had decent gas mileage for the size of car, though slightly worse than fuel guide estimates.

Versatility is where it shines. 60/40 rear seat with a fold flat front seat plus optional roof rails have made this little SUV able to carry canoes, bikes, snowboard and more anywhere I have wanted to go.

Also important is the power. Either 4-cylinder engine provides ample power and is mated to a CVT II transmission. This drivetrain takes some getting used to and does not have the same pick-up you may expect from a car with 150+ horsepower. Once accustomed to the transmission, it is easy to get the RPM’s up when you need them to actually feel some acceleration.

The North package seemed to be most common providing the A/C, Power windows and locks, electronic stability program as well as those folding seats previously mentioned and was in the middle of the levels of options. The other 2 packages were the Sport and the Limited.

Overall, the Patriot isn't the best in the category, but at the price point, it is hard to find a much better value.

Excellent Value & Economy
This vehicle is the easiest to use vehicle with automatic attention lights for things like tires needing air, locks not set, back hatch not closedm, etc.
Maintenance free with great fuel mileage and looks great too.
Extended warranty is a bonus to 100km
