Chevrolet has just debuted its latest electric vehicle. The 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV gets an estimated range of up to 515 km, will offer the brand's first electric SS performance model, and is even set to get a police pursuit variant to help those fleets move to zero-emissions driving.
The EV will, like its gas-powered sibling, offer a style-forward design with a strong Camaro influence in the nose and wide rear fenders. The charge-door cutout in the front fenders and door will probably be controversial, but you certainly can't call it bland.
Each trim level will have a unique appearance. The LT trim has a monochrome look and 19-inch wheels, the RS has black accents and 21s, and the SS will have its own grille, two-tone paint, and 22-inch wheels. Those LED lights in the photos will have their own animations as drivers walk towards and away from the vehicle. A fancy new trick will show you the state of charge while you're plugged in with pulsing lights in the grille.
The Blazer EV is based on GM's Ultium Platform, the same electric architecture and component set that powers the Cadillac Lyriq and GMC Hummer EV. Chevrolet will offer front, rear, and all-wheel drive variants. The SS model will be the most powerful, getting up to 564 hp and 648 lb-ft of torque in the "WOW" (Wide Open Watts) drive mode if you've taken the all-wheel drive option.
The RS rear-drive model has a range estimate of up to 515 km, but the range for the other models hasn't been announced yet. With three different drive options, we also expect multiple battery pack sizes and for all of that to be detailed closer to the Blazer EV arriving at dealers next summer.
Level 2 charging will be standard, along with 190-kW L3 fast-charging. Chevrolet says it will be able to add up to 125 km of range in just 10 minutes on a Level 3 charge when conditions permit, for the most efficient RS RWD.
The 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV will be a two-row model. Chevrolet says it will have loads of space thanks to a flat floor and the Ultium EV packaging. Heated seats and steering wheel will be standard, and the RS and SS models will get ventilated front seating.
An 11-inch screen will do duty as the dashboard display. A massive 17.7-inch touchscreen sits centre stage in the dash and provides infotainment functions.
Chevrolet says the Blazer EV will be tech-heavy, offering features like a new hands-free start. Instead of a start button, drivers can get in, touch the brakes (with the keys on their person), and the car will turn on and be ready to drive. It will offer navigation with charging and route planning, and a sensor-based power tailgate that doesn't require you to push a button or kick your foot.
The Blazer will also offer Super Cruise, the automaker's hands-off driving assistant that can handle most driving duties on designated sections of divided highways. A host of other driver assistance features are included.
The 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV goes on sale next summer. The 2LT and RS models will be offered at launch, with an MSRP of $56,598 and $61,298 respectively. The SS arrives later in the year from $80,998 and the 1LT shows up in early 2024 for $51,998. Reservations opened 30 minutes after Chevrolet's reveal, so if you're reading this, there may be spots available.
