Volkswagen has just revealed its latest electric vehicle (EV). The 2025 Volkswagen ID.7 is a large sedan, and while it's a body style that is becoming less common in the market, VW is still committed.
The ID.7 isn't exactly glamorous in design, however, it's not boring to look at. There are complex lines and curves, and it's a liftback, so there is plenty of room for your stuff in the back.
At just shy of 5,000 mm, this is a big sedan that's even longer than the gas-powered Passat. VW has used that size to great effect and managed a drag coefficient of just 0.23. Short overhangs front and rear should also maximize usable space.
Though the ID.7 is based on VW's modular electric car platform, it has an all-new driveline compared with the previous ID vehicles. This one makes 282 hp and is the most powerful and torquey electric VW yet.
VW says multiple battery pack sizes will allow up to 700 km of range on the generous European testing cycle. Charging happens at up to "about" 200 kW, VW says, which is quick but not industry-leading.
Volkswagen says it has been learning from past ID models when it comes to the interior, too. That has led to features like the new 15.0-inch infotainment screen and an augmented reality head-up display. Luxury equipment includes massage seats and an electrochromic dimming roof. Volkswagen offers heated and cooling seats with a drying function, and there will be a 14-speaker, 700-watt Harman Kardon audio system.
Last, but certainly not least, is safety. The Volkswagen ID.7 will include features like Park Assist Pro with memory, a new driver assistance feature that records your last 50 metres of driving and replicates it, which helps in tighter areas or trickier parking situations.
The Volkswagen ID.7 is set to launch this fall in Europe and China. It comes to North America in 2024.
