Mini just introduced the gas-engine versions of its latest-generation Cooper hardtop. The two gas models at launch get a 2.0L four-cylinder engine along with the same new design and added interior technology of the electric version.
Like the 2025 Mini Cooper Electric, the internal-combustion Cooper and Cooper S don't stray far from the company's previous designs. The squat, rounded silhouette is immediately familiar, though it's also immediately apparent that this is a new model. The grille, for example, is more octagonal than before, and the taillight pods are triangular, rather than rectangular. The models announced today don't have flush-fit door handles, though they do have fender flares, unlike the EV.
Mini said two versions of the 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder will be available. The engine in the Cooper S makes 201 hp and 221 lb-ft of torque. The standard Cooper will produce less power, but the company hasn't said how much less.
The interior keeps Mini's signature round centre display, a thin OLED display that is 240 mm across. The main screen displays speed and fuel consumption up high. Essential functions are in widgets intended to be as easy to operate as in a smartphone OS. The system gets "Hey Mini" voice assistant activation with a digital companion called Spike. It will also have phone-as-key using the Mini app.
Without a stick shift, Mini has moved the gear selector to the toggle switch bar on the centre stack, freeing up space for a wireless charging shelf in the center console.
Other cool highlights include selectable lighting signatures for the exterior running lights. Mini will also offer a Mini Experience Mode that includes two projectors that beam illuminated graphics onto the dash.
Mini said the Cooper and Cooper S models will offer a wide range of body and roof paint choices. There will even be a multi-tone roof once again. The Mini Cooper S will start from $39,990 in Canada. Production begins in April, so cars should be at dealers this summer.
