Mercedes-Benz Adds PHEV 350e Model to GLC Lineup

A plug-in hybrid (PHEV) model is returning to the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLC lineup. The automaker is adding a 350e 4Matic model with up to 130 km of range to the latest generation of its compact luxury crossover.

Mercedes-Benz introduced the brand-new GLC SUV in 2023. While it was larger than the model it replaced, it was offered only with a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engine and 48V mild hybrid tech or in powerful AMG variants. This new version adds horsepower and cuts fuel consumption while letting drivers avoid some gasoline use altogether.

The 2024 GLC 350e starts with a 201-hp 2.0L four-cylinder, but Mercedes-Benz adds a 134-hp permanently excited motor and a 24.8-kWh battery. The combined gas engine and motor make 313 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque.

That hefty battery pack and powerful electric motor allow for up to 130 km of driving (on the optimistic European WLTP testing cycle) at speeds up to 140 km/h. While Canadian range figures will be less, it will still be a significant boost in range over the 35 km that the previous GLC 350e sold in Canada offered. It can charge at up to 60 kW, meaning a full charge can happen in around 30 minutes.

AMG variants of the GLC SUV and Coupe are still coming, and those will also offer a PHEV. However, with up to 671 hp, Mercedes-AMG models are not focused on efficiency and comfort like the standard Benz GLC.

Trim details for Canada are not yet available (they'll come closer to launch), but Mercedes-Benz will offer the GLC 350e with a high level of standard features in the U.S. and we don't expect that to change here. That includes self-levelling suspension, wireless phone charging, keyless start, 16-way power seats, a full suite of driver assists, and more.

The 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLC 350e is expected to go on sale in the second half of this year. Pricing and more details will follow closer to the SUV's arrival at dealers.
